Maries Large Print Book Reviews

Janet Evanovich – "Eleven On Top" – Murder VVG Explicit language, explicit sex and violence.

Comments: Often comic in content So I enjoy it . Lots of readers won’t see the funny part. I can… but it’s not an everyone read. I like to see the bad guys get what’s coming to them.

Jan Karon – "A Continental Feast" – Religious Romance – OK

Comments: Jan Karon, fictional priest, Father Tim Kavanaugh. These are his words of wisdom imparted in the Mitford Series stories – Words to live by. I was not interested in these now. They were fine to read in a story.

Danielle Steel – "The House On Hope Street" - OK

Comments: One of Danielle Steel’s romance stories = A lot of family trauma, but predictable.

Karen Robard – "Whispers At Midnight" – VVG

Comments: A Murder Mystery. It is also a fun read, too bad they make women look and sound like idiots.

NOTE: This is mostly a sex story with a little murder added…..

Welcome Sign News

Brian and I were out this weekend working on the Welcome Sign.  Well, Brian worked; I supervised.

We put up most of the name boards we had.  There were a few we did not hang, as they included the names of community members who are no longer with us.  We will be contacting those families regarding their wishes for the name boards.

If a name board was up there, we left it—even for folks we know have moved away.  As we make repairs and work out an equitable dues and accountability system, we will remove the name boards of folks who no longer wish to participate.

Thank you.  If you have any questions or would like to pay for the coming year, please call Margaret Patterson at 826-3539 (day) or 826-3589 (evening).

In Loving Memory…..

Our family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their cards and for their help celebrating Gail’s life by attending the memorial service, dinner and Tom’s Tavern “Drinks on Gail.”  We’d like to give special thanks to the ladies of the Syringa Club for the wonderful dinner, all those who donated dishes so generously and the Elk River Ambulance Service for their expertise when Mom injured her leg.  The unselfish service they provide Elk River residents is vital to the community.  Your support helped us tremendously.  Thank you so much.

RAC/GEM

Elk River RAC applied to the Idaho State Historical Society for a $5,000.00 Grant for Pole Banners for our Centennial upcoming in 2010, here is the response letter….

Tonya Delphous

Elk River RAC

PO Box 122

Elk River, Id 83827

Dear Tonya:

I want to thank you for your application to the Idaho State Historical Society’s community grants program.  Unfortunately, your proposal was not awarded funding.   We had a large pool of applicants and a very limited supply of funds.  The decisions on what to fund and what not to fund were very difficult.

If you would like to discuss the grants process please feel free to contact me.  We are hopeful that we will have funding for a community grants program next year, and we would welcome another application at that time.  If we do receive funding for this program again next year, we will have grant application guidelines available in July 2009, and they will be available on both our internet site (www.idahohistory.net) or also by contacting me.

Again, I do want to thank you for your application.  I am sorry we were unable to assist you this year, but we do appreciate all that you do to preserve Idaho’s history.

Sincerely,

Keith Petersen, Associate Director/State Historian
